Velvet Snow - Julian Casablancas [1/15/10]
Julian covered this song at a few shows during his solo tour, and I think he did a pretty rad job - even though you literally cannot understand a single word.

Elephant Gun - Beirut [3/16/07, KLRU]
far from home, elephant gun, let’s take them down one by one
let’s lay it down, it’s not been found
there’s no accordion
Brandenburg - Beirut [San Fran, 2007]
send me now, the winter’s over
the light turns sour, the winds are colder
the love we’ve had will turn all over
the gold went south, and we are older
oh when tides broke you walked, now
on a night like this we wandered around
no, but I, I won’t have you anymore
no, but I, I can’t have you anymore
and some days we’re all alone on the banks of the Rhine
and some days all we had were our barrels of wine
and salt in seas brings us near,
shows us what’s to find
and some days we’re all alone on the banks of the Rhine
In The Mausoleum - Beirut, San Francisco 2007
how much do you miss the violins. fuuqq
1971 [Zach Condon] - The Electric Show
you venture too far out of your backyard
you might wander, but you’ll come back soon enough
I’m not the one who will decide
where you spend your money on tonight
go to the electric show tonight
there’s many like you there
find your way around the Minnesota map
sell your stereo to friendly neighbors
go to the electric show tonight
there’s many like you there
Julian: “Oh man, it’s great to be here in Paris… you guys have gothic churches around like 7-11s here… it’s fun to drive around. Red Red Wine by UB40? Just kidding. Alright folks, thanks a lot for coming to our.. thing… merci, merci. Two more songs for ya tonight… the next one is a new one, it’s called 15 Minutes… for the guy who doesn’t speak english! *corrective drumming from Fab* Sorry! I’m sorry, my mistake. It’s Razorblade.”
East Harlem - Haldern Pop, 2010
early version of East Harlem where I think he’s just making stuff up at the end
What Ever Happened? - The Strokes
10/31/2003, Boston MA
a perfect performance of this song.
Katie, I don’t believe you
and that’s the bottom line
how could this have gone on
before my very eyes?
if you’re trying to make me cry
well, I’m crying
what you tell me - oh, that’s gotta be a lie
all I ever wanted for you, kid
was a life unlike mine
no knock on the door
no drag to the floor every night
I can’t have it be true,
for you too
I can’t believe you
it would cut me to the bone
to know I let that man in our home
not my baby
no, Katie not you
You Won’t B Here - Perfume Genius
Your heart will break
Whatever you do.
But you won’t be here
Tomorrow.
You might not get
What you were promised.
You might be hollow
Under all of the dust.
But you are hurting
Everyone you touch.
And they won’t be here
Tomorrow.
Perfume Genius - Floating Spit
This song kills me every time.
Peel off the color of the night
a second skin,
a floating spit is hovering.
(The other side is opening now)
I don’t think that I can hold it.
22 Day Strokes Challenge//Day 21: Favorite song from Angles?
Gratisfaction
oh b-baby don’t you be so mad because I barely remember
as she tries to recognize me with the eyes
she saw me with in December
and she starts to realize that it’s actually
not a good thing
and it’s so tough because she’s down before
I’d have given them another adventure
all her friends in the alleyway shout back,
she can’t hear them
but you’re never gonna get my love
we can only play in the sand
get up in the morning and run
you’ll be frustrated til the day that you’re done
he got punched in the mouth
for stickin’ his nose in other peoples’ business
no good solution, always on the verge of his own revolution
well tough luck, it may take a thousand years
but I think we can do it
best friends fight, but they never enjoy life
as good as when they abuse it
he said, the soldier is a necessity in light
of all the failures of man
but you’re never gonna get their love
we can only fight in the sand
we get tired when the days are too long
we get lonely when the days are gone
he could never mention it or hear it now
without quick tears in his eyes, ooooo
‘cuz you’re never gonna get my love
we can only play in the sand
you get tired when the days are too long
you get lonely when the days are gone
yeah, you’re never gonna get this love
we can always ride to the top
that’s about as far as we go
get up in the morning and run
22 Day Strokes Challenge//Day 19: Favorite song from First Impressions of Earth?
Anyone who wants to argue that Electricityscape isn’t one of the best Strokes songs ever has clearly never listened to this song closely. Not only are the lyrics brilliant, but Julian’s emotions in this song are so raw and vulnerable, your heart aches for him. He’s pleading for forgiveness, a chance to start anew. The solo is heartbreaking, and the guitars wrap around each other and make you feel like you’re driving into a brightly lit city in complete darkness.
Postcards From Italy - Beirut [8/13/2006]
Zach: Are these high rises scaring anyone else in Brooklyn?
Paul: they’re… you guys see that? It’s bullshit. Consider this, like, the farewell party, guys. So let’s enjoy it while we have it before, like, the bourgeoisie motherfuckers - Bono’s lookin’ at that shit! Bono wants that condo, aright!?

Zach: Oh yeah we’re going to Ireland next, we’re screwed. this next song is called Siki siki Baba. I still don’t know the lyrics… you can sing
